Patios and Paths
There are a large range of materials available for use in building a patio, veranda or hard standing, from natural flag stones and setts to prefabricated slabs and cobbles. All patios should ideally be laid on a compacted sub base of hardcore and a wet mortar mix of sand and cement. The chosen slabs, sett or cobbles should be laid in such a way, that all rainwater will flow towards drainage or planted areas. Patios laid against buildings or walls, should be set to a minimum drop of 150mm below the damp course of walling. Slabs, setts or cobbles should be pointed by hand with a semi-wet pointing mix to prevent cracking and weed growth between slabs...
